Christmas Work Event Ideas
The end of year season is a great opportunity to celebrate the year’s successes, show appreciation to your team, and build camaraderie. A well-planned Christmas work party sets the tone for this by blending festive fun with opportunities for team bonding. With thoughtful preparation, you can create an epic event that will leave lasting memories, whether it’s through a lively setting, festive activities, or exciting games. Here are some ideas to help you make this year’s Christmas work party one to remember!
Rodeo Theme Christmas Party
What better way to get the party started than with a bucking bull! That’s what one of our clients did for their Christmas event in 2023 and the guests raved about it!
We went for a full Wild Wild Western theme for the event, complete with belt buckles and cowboy hats for the guests to wear on arrival, rodeo themed cocktails for the guests to enjoy, a saloon jumping castle for the kids and of course, the bucking bull.
The guests got into theme and all dressed up as well, which added to the atmosphere.
Hawaiian Theme Christmas Party
Another great theme for a Christmas party in the summer has got to be Hawaiian or summer themed! It doesn’t get much more tropical than flamingos, palm trees, tropical dancers and a tiki bar!
Guests were greeted on arrival by tropical dancers with either a Bahama Mamas cocktail, mojito or a margarita to get the party started.
Leis were handed out to the guests as they arrived, and each attendee rocked up in their best tropical party shirt.
Traditional Christmas
Sometimes the traditions just can’t be broken, and it’s best to stick with what we all know. A traditional Christmas party can also be great if you do it a bit extra.
In 2024 we helped turn our client’s backyard into Santa’s home away from home for the kids. The event setup was complete with a sleigh for Santa to ride in, a complete sit down dinner for 25 people in of course, green and red theme colours.
The guests dressed in casual tropical wear to be comfortable and beat the Queensland summer heat, and the air-conditioning pumped all day long.
Santa and his elves arrived later in the day to greet the kids, deliver some presents and have a great afternoon of fun and joy for everyone.
Corporate Affair
Simple can be good; it’s important to think about what your guests are like and what they will appreciate and enjoy.
Another client we work with each year to deliver their Christmas party, loves to just make sure we have a great venue, with a killer view, incredible food and wine, and some great background music.
When you have a really tight knit group who just love each other’s company, sometimes this is all you need.
Celebrate your company’s success
Last year we worked alongside Getty Images, and their client Populous, to transform a warehouse space from an empty space, to an art gallery in a matter of hours. The gallery was to celebrate two events for the team.
It was originally for the 40th anniversary of the Populous brand being in activation, and everything they have achieved in the time.
Second to this, though, and maybe the more important part (depending on who you ask), was the timing of the event: it was held at the beginning of December, just in time to bring the team in for a Christmas event on day two. This is the definition of two birds with one stone!
Team Bonding Activities
Christmas parties don’t have to be all about drinks and food, it can also be about team building activities that get your team thinking and working together.
A few years ago we took a small intimate team of 10 through a wreath making workshop with an incredible florist.
We had setup the space like a floristry studio, with tubs of greenery, acorns and little trinkets to decorate the wreaths with.
The guests had a great time listening to some Christmas carols, chatting away and munching on a few little Christmas sweet treats to finish off the day.
There are so many ways you can celebrate Christmas with your team! Regardless of the size of your team, how close they are, or even the budget – the options are endless.
5 Games for a Corporate Christmas Party
- Christmas Trivia
How it works:
Prepare a list of Christmas-related trivia questions and divide participants into teams. Questions can cover a range of topics from holiday traditions, popular Christmas movies, music, and even office-related holiday trivia. The team that answers the most questions correctly wins. Consider offering festive prizes to the winning team, like gift cards or Christmas-themed gift baskets. - Secret Santa Gift Exchange with a Twist
How it works:
Each participant brings a wrapped gift to the party. Instead of the usual draw-a-name Secret Santa, everyone draws a number. The person with number one selects and opens a gift first. The next person can either choose an unopened gift or “steal” the opened one, with a limit on the number of steals per gift. The game continues until all gifts are opened, resulting in a mix of excitement and good-natured competition. - Christmas Carol Charades
How it works:
This is a fun twist on the traditional charades game. Write down the names of popular Christmas carols on slips of paper and have participants take turns acting out the song (without using words). The rest of the team must guess which carol is being acted out. You can make it even more festive by having teams compete for the fastest guesses. - Office Snowball Fight
How it works:
For a playful and energetic activity, divide the group into teams and use soft, fake “snowballs” (white balloons or balls of crumpled paper) to simulate a snowball fight. Teams stand on opposite sides of the room, and the objective is to throw as many snowballs at the other team as possible within a set time. The team with the least snowballs on their side at the end of the game wins. - Christmas Bingo
How it works:
Create Bingo cards with squares featuring Christmas-themed items or actions (e.g., “someone wearing a Santa hat,” “mentions Christmas vacation,” “a Christmas tree decoration”). As guests mingle, they can mark off each square once they’ve encountered the specific item or situation. The first person to complete a row or the entire card yells “Bingo!” and wins a festive prize.
