We sat down with Alicia, FAME’s newest Event Coordinator, to learn more about her journey into events and her first experiences with the team.
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Hi! My name is Alicia Westland, and I’m an Event Coordinator at FAME Events. I’m also currently studying a Bachelor of Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management at the University of Queensland.
Why did you decide to become an event coordinator?
I’ve always loved organising and being involved in events. Growing up, I volunteered at things like the Pop-Up Polos, the Sunshine Coast Marathon, and Surfing for the Disabled. Helping others bring their ideas to life really drew me to events.
Being an event coordinator allows me to combine organisation, creativity, and problem-solving. I enjoy fast-paced environments and seeing a concept transform into a full, memorable event.
Why did you choose to join FAME Events?
Honestly, I’m still in shock that I get to work here! The team at FAME is made up of incredible, passionate, detail-oriented women who make every event unique and memorable. I’ve learned so much in just a few weeks and love being part of this supportive, driven environment.
What was your first week like as an event coordinator?
The first week was a whirlwind! I attended meetings, learned about venue proposals for clients, and saw how FAME executes events from prep to show day. Balancing university, work, and social life was a challenge, but it really helped me improve my time management and work efficiently.
Can you tell us about your first event with FAME?
My first event was a styling job for JuicedTV, and it was amazing! I learned that every detail matters, from a beautiful archway filled with tennis balls, to a merch wall, activity signage, and floral arrangements. Seeing how all these elements came together to transform the venue was incredible.
What I loved most was being creative and thinking on my feet. It confirmed for me that event management is what I want to do for the rest of my life. I also learned the importance of embracing change, having a backup plan, and working through challenges as they arise.
What have you learned so far in your role?
I’ve learned so much about planning and executing events, from run sheets to venue proposals. I’ve also grown in confidence sharing ideas and contributing to the team. Every day as an event coordinator is a learning opportunity, and I can’t wait to continue developing my skills and creating amazing events with FAME.
At FAME Events, we specialise in creating bespoke, high-impact experiences that make your brand shine. Whether it’s a corporate event, product launch, or creative activation, our team of dedicated event coordinators ensures every detail is executed flawlessly.
